If you think that God is willing to torture a soul with incomprehensible pain for an eternity for simply being born in the wrong place, then you misunderstand the nature of God.Here is what Mormons believe: Hell is a reference to one of two places, spirit prison and outer darkness. Those that don't got to a preheaven like place known as spirit paradise, which is the safegrounds or temporary home for the righteous spirits that are to go over to SP and teach about the gospel.Outer Darkness is reserved for Satan, his demons, and the Sons of Perdition. Outer darkness is a place without the light of christ aka god’s spirit or the light and life of God. Thats all Mormons have to say about OD. I used to think it was a place of extreme pain, but I actually speculate that it is probably a place of absolute melancholy and nothingness, where the ability to feel things is taken away. Just super depressiveness, but not agony or torture. This is in contrast to Heaven, where one can feel as much joy and/or pain as they please, loosely, recognizing that there are different degrees to glory and principles of functionality might change with them.These beliefs signify of a much more benevolent creator, without taking away from justice and necessity.

We are not sent anywhere we gain the possibility to go to heaven or hell by the way we live. We get what is worthy! There are a few places we can get as reward. Off course there are sins which will condemned to hell people who didn't know the gospel for they knew what's bad and right and chose to do wrong but they will be judge with more tolerance than the ones who knew the gospel and sinned.2) The hell everybody is afraid of is not the hell prepared for men. To get to the hell you are afraid of you will have first to learn the whole gospel, gain the way back to God and right on his presence, being a god yourself reject Father in Heaven like Satan did. It is not 'God sending an individual' so much as God creating the laws by which everything operates and free will is part of that. So we make poor choices, along with the stream of excuses, blame and denial which go with those errors of judgement, and poor old God gets blamed. Make the right choices, or as a religious person may call it, choose to live in accord with the righteous laws of God, and the karmic compulsion to return is overcome. That way we exchange the 'hell' of the cycle of birth and death for the "heaven' of eternal oneness with God.
