Like Korea china and Japan they managed to rebuild and recover quick.

You do not need to be ashamed that you are Vietnamese.
Rather, you should be proud of the fact that you are Vietnamese. And you must pay many thanks to your parents for your birth as a Vietnamese. I’d like to describe the reasons below.
This answer is entirely my personal opinion that is based on my experiences.
1. My childhood with in severe poverty
First, I’d like to introduce my childhood experience to explain that you do not need to be ashamed that Vietnam is still a poor country.
During my childhood, in the late 1950′s and 1960′s, Korea was the poorest country in the world. Of course, my family was also very very poor.
In my childhood, I had never tried a nutritious meal, sometimes had only 1 or 2 meals a day. I was a child of malnutrition, as a result of that my height is still shorter than that of others.
My family members were nine, however, lived in a rented one room with a small attic room. There was no toilet, no water and no electricity.

So, in lunch time at school, I had to wandering around the school grounds to hide that I did not bring lunches. Only way to withstand hunger was drinking water and tighten my belt.
Even if I was a boy in serious poverty at that time, I had never be ashamed for my poor situation. I have never begged others for food while starving.
I had also never stopped going to school in such a poor situation.
As a person who has experienced harsh poverty in my childhood, I can give you my best advice.
Poverty is not a shame.
Poverty is temporary and easily overcome.
Vietnam is a very very rich country compared to Korea in my childhood.

I think Vietnamese people can be proud of their cultural heritage.
I visited Vietnam three times since last November. I was amazed to see Vietnam''''s cultural heritage. The most impressive place in Hanoi was the temple of literature, not because of the appearance or grandeur of the buildings. I have found a spirit of respect to academics and scholarship of Vietnamese in there.

I was amazed and honored when I saw the history of the endless struggle of independence during the French colonial rule and the record of the patriotic sacrifice of young soldiers dispatched to southern Vietnam through the Ho Chi Minh Trail during the Vietnam War.Patriotism are the precious and proud assets of Vietnamese people for national development. These have been abundant in the past and now still abundant in Vietnam.A person''''s dream is a mere dream, but dreams and aspirations of many people are the power to move the world.I think that Vietnamese patriotism and unity could easily make well develop ed Vietnam in near future.

4. Humanism of the Vietnamese
I visited Vietnam three times since last November. I visited all around Vietnam, some small local cities as well as famous sightseeing spots in Vietnam.
I was able to discover that most Vietnamese .
(1) paying their respect to older people
(2) worship ancestors
(3) valued their family
(4) low crime rates and high ethical awareness
In short, these are humanism of Vietnamese. Now, Korean Wave such as K-Pop or K-drama is popular in many countries. Many people wonder why so many people like Korean Wave. I believe that the origin of the Korean wave is humanism. Humanism is a magic code that goes through every country in the world.No supremacy or military power can be stronger than humanism.
The tradition of humanism in Vietnam must be a magic wand which can leads Vietnam to happiness. You can proud of it.

4.越南人的人道主義
自去年11月以來，我曾三次訪問越南。 我參觀了越南的各個地方，一些地方小城市以及越南著名的觀光景點(diǎn)。我發(fā)現(xiàn)大多數(shù)越南人。

(6) Lack of technology for high-tech industries
(7) Seasonal disaster due to tropical climate
(8) insufficient social welfare system
(9) The enlarging gap between the rich and the poor
so on , etc.
In fact, all countries in the world have similar problems, so these are not the problems to be ashamed of. Indeed, if the Vietnamese have not found such social problems and do not have any willingness to improve in the future, it should be a shame.But I think that Vietnamese can overcome these problems soon enough.Thanks for your reading long words.

Vietnam is not that popular internationally. Most people don’t know what is Vietnam. And that is perfectly fine. I don’t see any problem with that. In fact, most people don’t know most countries enough for judging. Do you know a country named Kazakhstan? No? This also applies to Vietnam for most people.But seriously, if someone judges you not because of who you are, but where you’re from, they must be ashamed of themselves, not you. I am a first generation Vietnamese in my family to be born in America. There is a lack of a physical connection to the Vietnamese’s soil. However, I never once felt shame to be Vietnamese. A characteristic that was passed down to us is resiliency and it runs through our DNA as an ethnic group. What it means to be Vietnamese is to be resilient and that is in our history. I understand you although don’t know why you have felt that. I did not exactly feel ashamed but I felt small and there were times I felt I was treated differently bc I was Vietnamese when I was studying abroad. This was because in my class people kept bashing the type of government we have, or because my voice was not as noticeable from time to time because I was Vietnamese. Or that when people wanted to tell more about abt their country and only forced fake attention when I told them abt our country. I know our country is full of good and tough and smart people. We have lot more compassion and sincerity than developed nations,and we are smart and hard-working. But some people think they are better than us just because their country is richer. I actually learned to love my country better when I was abroad. Because I realize we have so much potential but so looked down on, they are not that quicker or smarter than us but they have so much, I realize VN deserves much more than wht we are having. I realize I want to contribute to my country and I start loving it so much more than when I was in VN.

To be sure, I’m not a Chinese. I’m from another country in Southeast Asia. If I were a Vietnamese, I would be thoroughly ashamed to be a Vietnamese because most Vietnamese have no shame at all.That’s not because I have any prejudice against the Vietnamese. That’s because you guys have no pride at all. Read Kill Anything That Moves: The Real American War in Vietnam. Americans bombed your country to hell. Americans mutilated your babies and threw them into fire. Americans sprayed your whole country with agent orange and other carcinogens. Americans treated you guys like less than animals. Even today, Uncle Sam gave huge handouts for their Veterans but none for the real victims, the Vietnamese. Many of those criminals are still working not even retired yet. But what happened?
