You should know how to perform basic first aid.
Someone you care about or even you could get hurt and when you need to disinfect and dress a wound, you’re gonna need to know how to do it right. Sometimes there’s no time to wait for the doctors.
You should know how to give a compliment.
Giving a compliment the right way means paying attention to the details, focusing on the good in others and being very specific. A generalization doesn’t go very far as a compliment. Learn to compliment others by focusing on what makes the other person truly special.
You should know the correct way to respond to criticism.
Learn this skill to avoid looking defensive, unprepared and immature. Criticism is a good thing (most of the time), and it can help you improve and develop yourself if you can learn how to take it obxtively and reflect on yourself and your work.
Better yet, don’t just know how to put one together, actually put one together and have it ready. There’s no substitute for being well prepared.
You should know how to prepare and roast a turkey or chicken.
Or if you’re vegan- a tofurky. You’re probably going to be in charge of this at some point in your life during the holidays.
You should know how to use google efficiently.
Stop wasting precious time by using google incorrectly. Learn to be precise and use the built in tools that google already comes with. Find exactly what you need using google more efficiently and more accurately. You can learn this here.
You should know how to crowd-source opinions from your facebook friends…
Two things immediately come to mind, and lots of people still don't know how to do them:-
Wiring an electric plug. We're living in the 21st century. We've had electricity for 100 years or more. We're surrounded by stuff that runs on electricity. Yet...
Build a fire. With basic stuff like matches or rubbing a stick against some wood, I mean. Fire gives heat and light -- the two basic necessities for living. At some point in your life, you'll have to do this.
Now that I've started, there are some more that comes to mind too:-
Keeping a home clean. A clean home is the foundation for a clean, organised lifestyle. If your home is a mess, chances are so will your lifestyle. True fact, in my opinion.
Do basic cooking. Not the Cordon Bleu stuff. Instant noodles don't count. If you can't boil an egg, you're not going to live very long, quite honestly. I'm not saying you shouldn't eat out all the time (I do because of work), but everyone should know how to cobble up something that's eatable and edible.

Deliver bad news. Honestly? Have you never had bad news delivered to you? Have you never delivered bad news to someone? Someone's got to do it. Someday that person will be you.
Handle an interview. Meaning something resembling a job interview. We all got interviewed when going into a new school or new course, so the job interview is just an extension of that. The operative word is "handle" -- doesn't necessarily mean performing well or having sure-fire ways of landing a job. If you socialise a bit with your school friends, you shouldn't have trouble handling a job interview.
Your furious Internet search for "1,001 Things Everyone Needs to Know How to Do" will come up with a bazillion things that (quite frankly in my opinion) are too 'advanced' and not basic enough. Sure, everyone in the 21st century should know how to type, but honestly, it's not something everyone gets to know without some formal training.
We talk The Big Talk about self-reliance all the time. True, self-reliance is vital and key to living a healthy, productive life. To be self-reliant, one has to master a set of basic skills and learn to be a jack of all trades first. As you grow older (like me at 55 now), you'll come to realise that (all things being equal) a jack of all trades is far better equipped to deal with life than a specialised master of only one.
True fact that, in my opinion.
These are some things I think every person should know.
Survival skills. Handy when you stay alone. Includes cooking, washing clothes, etc. Anything to do with running a house when staying alone.
Driving. Learn to go around on your own. You will encounter many places where there is no dedicated means of transport. Better learn to drive your own vehicle (provided you have roads there) than depend on someone else to go around.
Bargaining. It’s your hard earned money after all. (What’s a bigger need, you saving money or the needs of the person selling the goods? As per situation, it’s for you to see).
Work out. Stay healthy. Stay fit. Stay strong.
Earn money. Obviously.
Life saving skills. You never know when these could come in hand when an accident happens around you.
Photography. Don’t depend on people to take your photographs. Buy some gear and do it on your own. Or find a photographer friend who can do it for you.
Time management. Not everyone knows it. A handy plus if you know to.
Public speaking. Everyone has to do it once in a while.
Listening. Not everyone listens. Most of the time, people only hear. They don’t pay attention to what the person is saying.
Give up. Let go. A person should know when to quit when he realizes he has nothing left to gain. He should know to quit from a relationship if it has become too toxic to handle. He should know to change his stream of studies if he’s too bogged down by failure. He should know to change his approach and let go of the previous approach if the old approach simply yields no results.
What are 5 things everyone should know how to do?
Given my extraordinary life experiences in overcoming the odds - I have learned much in life. That which matters the most - and that which was a waste of time that lead nowhere.
There is more than five things everyone should know how to do in order to reach fulfilment and happiness in life, but to narrow down the most important is knowing how to:-
Love. Themselves first and others equally. Cherishing those who we love and love us, never taking love for granted. Having passion (love) for something, a cause, our work, interests, significant others or strangers in need - a passion for ‘the gift of life’. Loving what chosen career we choose - as to excel in anything it does not just require education solely, but for excellence we have to do it with love/dedication. It has to be more than about the money. Otherwise what we do is ‘half hearted’; which will ultimately show in the end result as we tire of it. Without love in one’s heart - life is just mere existence.
become resilient and independent. Facing challenges and life’s curve balls head on - without ever giving up, avoiding the problem or running away - including escaping through substance abuse; - is to learn how too ‘overcome’ obstacles that can stop us pursuing our dreams. It offers growth in confidence and develops an inner strength and self belief that will see a person through anything life throws at them. Becoming ‘a(chǎn) survivor’ and self sufficient.
find purpose in life. Self indulgence/serving leaves its empty mark within and doesn’t bring lasting contentment. We all have to have something ‘to get out of bed for’ to achieve the latter. Building a life that leaves our personal unique mark behind - making the world that bit better for us being in it. To not grow tired of living and to see the point - having meaning in life is essential right to the end.
Live in faith, hope and love for the future. It is the greatest human force that sees a person through to a better end. We need to ‘believe’ in goodness and that it will prevail no matter how dark, having faith in something bigger than ourselves that will see us through. Faith, love and hope will always show the way.
to grow in empathy, forgiveness and compassion. It is love in action - which will gain the truest deepest respect from those other hearts you touched, as they will never forget you. As in the end this is all that is left - the love and memory of us in others hearts
Laundry. Learn to do your own laundry. Not only that, find the pride and the feeling of accomplishment in doing your laundry. Sorting, using the proper detergent, the right bleach on the right things. Drying, fluffing and folding, You know what, throw ironing in there as well. Sure, why not. Lear to iron. Learn to sew on a button, learn to mend a rip. We look to our mothers when we are young to do all this, but why not look to our fathers or look to ourselves.
Imagine a time when you’re down on your luck and you’re in a one-room apartment with money enough for rent, food, a low-class bottle of bourbon, and you have a shirt from which a button drops off when you pull it off the hanger. Well, I tell you this, a slow motion dropping button, bouncing off a perpetually filthy floor can cause the mind to think, fuck this life. Why do I even bother? I am done for, I am struck down, I am forgotten, I am unseen, I am nothing. And then, that money for rent goes to buy better bottles of bourbon and then, the money for food goes to buy more bottles of bourbon. And then, you truly are done, down, defeated, unseen, a faceless name stalking the streets until you die. Or, you get redeemed but that’s another answer to a different question.
It’s just a button, you’re saying how can it have that kind of power. Believe me, it does. A button, a rip, a broken “favorite” coffee cup. It’s not the monumental things that cause us to break down. Those things are so huge, so present, that we see them as quests, as tests, as things to give our best then triumph glorious and new. But, when the shit starts as a mite of dust in a corner but suddenly one thing piles on the next thing and you no longer see the light through the windows, because you cannot see the windows, it’s the little thing, the small thing, the last straw that will send you in a spiral over the edge. And that small thing, that lost ring, that button, that paper cut … that makes you a person who doesn’t even care they are now over the edge. You just accept it, of course, this happens to me, everything happens to me, I am worthless, I deserve to be a maker of misery to myself and others I am NOTHING. It’s the little things that play upon your weakness, that rattle your brain, that stop you short and send you in that other direction. Think about it.
Now, think on this; When your in that one-room apartment with enough money for rent, food and a low-class bottle of bourbon. When your luck is low and a button falls from a shirt that you pull from the hanger, if you have learned how to sew that button on, it no longer has the power to be that little thing. You take your portable sewing kit from a drawer, you sit, you thread a needle, you return the button to its place, it’s purpose. With your own hands. Well, suddenly, you have control over something. Over one thing in this spiraling, out of control, why me, world. One thing you can do. One useful thing. That leads to something else and something else. Then, you find yourself in a two-room apartment on the top floor with lots of light and more space. It ain’t Shangri-fuckin’-la, I mean, it was, after all, only a button. But, it’s a start. And there are days when a start is you need.
Learn to do laundry, iron a shirt, mend a button. Take pride in it, find the joy in the simplicity of it and then … go from there.
1) Become Your own role model. If You don't have one, decide what qualities would make one in Your eyes. Become that.
2) Learn to turn Your Passion(s) into Your career. Truly cultivate Yourself. This way You will never "work" but You will be happy and feel successful because have learned to monetize what You love BEING. You will also be able to support Yourself and a family while living from Your Heart. This will also instill in You the ability to teach Your children how to truly live fulfilling lives by being true to themselves. YOU will Be THEIR role model.
3) Learn to kindly, non-verbally and verbally express everything from "I love You" to "I'm sorry." Express Your vulnerabilities. When You FEEL love, express it by showing it AND saying it. There are enough of us in the world too familiar with having a "tough" father who couldn't say "I love You" or "I'm sorry." And I'm sure You don't want to be that. Know that it is ok to be wrong. Have enough courage to express it. Teach Your kids that it is ok to be wrong. Life is a beautiful learning process.
4) Adventure. Travel. Make Love. See the World. Experience different cultures. Go to all the places Your heart yearns to see. Climb that mountain. Dive that sea. Read books. Base jump. Make Love and mean it.
5) Exercise Your body and mind. Meditate. Choose the form of exercise that calls to You, that You feel exhilarating, at peace, and unapologetically sexy doing. Become a master. Inwardly , then outwardly. Learn to become a master of Your thoughts. Then You can master Life.
This goes for Women too.
I think it's very important to learn how to love yourself and be selfish. The truth is, nobody is going to live our live for us. Sometimes we care so much of how people think and how people feel that we're doing things to please other people, this includes families. Especially families.
I don't think there's a point in living your life for others, maybe you will get use to it, maybe you'll come to accept it, maybe you'll learn to live with it
When we are where we don't want to be, and we have reasons to blame other people, it's easy to just lose all responsibility and throw everything to that person/people, and get entirely hung up on it that we forget to accept the situation and move on.
It's important in life to accept things as it is and just move on, or more accurately, live on.
If you’re a person who’s prone to get angry very quickly, before doing something that could potentially have very bad repercussions, slowly breathe in through your nose, and then slowly breathe out through your mouth. Do this as many times as you need until you feel calmer.
If you’re ever upset about something, the way you think is obviously gonna be different, it would tend to be much more pessimistic and negative, just slowly breathe in through your nose, and then slowly breathe out through your mouth. Again, do this as many times as you need.
As simple as this sounds, it’s the one trick I’ve used recently to clear my mind. The best way to describe it is like cleaning a room, imagine you’re standing in a messy bedroom, and each time you slowly breathe in and then breathe out, the bedroom gets cleaner. Each time you breathe in and out, it’s like a random obxt that’s just randomly in your room which is contributing to the mess has been place din the correct place or removed, making the room cleaner. Each time you breathe in and out, more obxts are getting tidied up, yes there will still be dust on the floor that will need to be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, and there’s still going to be a few things that require more effort to be cleaned, but everything has become much more clearer after getting rid of the big noticeable things that made cleaning the room look like such a tedious task.
These are some of the simplest of things that anyone can follow that can make a big difference
--Say sorry and thank you to people.
Those simple words can make a difference to the other person.
--Tell others how much they mean to you.
You never know what might come up or happen in future. So whenever you can, tell the people you love how much they mean to you.
—Do not judge others by their looks or caste or anything for which they aren't responsible for.
—Help others even in the simplest possible way.
A small act on your side can be something big for the other
--Smile.
That small curve on your face can make others feel positive and contented.
Be it a salesman or a delivery person, offer them water. They might never ask. But they'll need it.
—Listen.
When a person trust you and tells you something, listen. Do not interfere. Just listen. Sometimes all they need in ears to listen to their problem. Not advice
--Appreciate small things.
For example. When your Mom makes something special for you or cooks something, tell her how much you like it, it makes her day
—Never interrupt when others talk
—Never compare yourself with others.
Each and everyone in this planet is different. Never compare.
--Never ignore when someone messages you.
When a person take time from their schedule and makes a conversation with you, never ignore. You'll never know their worth until you lose them coz of your your ignorance.
