Carrefour is relatively friendly to ordinary people and students. As a student myself, I do Taobao more often than actually visiting the supermarket. Also, Beijing and Shanghai have very posh supermarkets selling much more pricy goods. I like visiting Ole vintage supermarket, just to see stuff (I cannot afford any, lol).

Foreigner's salaries are obviously amazing compared to local costs excepting rent.one bed apartments cost about 8000-15000 RMB a month to rent anywhere near the center.

@D T, we are talking about the local people of each country, relative to their earnings. Definitely living in China is cheaper than living in India. Chinese earn 6 times of Indians but the inflation is much lower than India.
