Great for around town, college, deliveries. We need more cheaper cars like this.
We need more cars without seatbelts, airbags, seats as comfortable as a dining room chair, and can't even go the speed limit? Why? This could never be sold in the US unless you turned it into a 3 wheeler and registered it as a motorcycle. Wanna $5K car, get a used car that is a real car.
How do you buy it ? or where do you buy it ?
@Huesen Paul
My best guess is that you need to go to China, or find the company which does this kind of jobs. The process is quite complicated, as I imagine you need to buy them, secure a shipping container and then clear the custom of you own country. I know there are companies who do that because I know there are people around the world who are willing to buy R34 skylines from Japan.
@Huesen Paul
tbh, I don’t know where you are from, but you also need to take into consideration that the charge port of this car might not match anything from your place. And let’s not forget that Chinese AC outlets are 220v. I think your best bet is that Wuling finds a market of over a billion people isn’t enough and has a bigger plan. FYI, it’s already outselling everything. And customs are a pain in the ass. Speaking of custom, my head starts to blow.
As an American, we need more cars like this here. Every single car now is all about being huge expensive and ultra luxurious. It's getting harder and harder to find a simple car.
In Europe it’s the same. We have cars filled with some rubbish extras that nobody asked for. Prices are super high and the things just get heavier and more expensive to fix and maintain.
We badly need this car in Europe. It’s pretty much the perfect car for most people “except for those with some masculinity issues”.
If I need to drive more far, I’ll rent Corolla but for 350 days per year, this thing gets me exactly as far and as fast as I wish to go. Perfect little car for very reasonable price
This car doesn't look much secure, if you have a accident with this you probably die xd

Look at all the ridicule and hate coming from reviewers at cars like the Mitsubishi Mirage and you'll see why. Most American consumers are spoiled or would rather put down their money on a nicer used car than a new reliable smaller economy car.
Yea all I need is a car that gets me front point A to point B without too much of a hassle. Large amounts of storage is nice but not needed. The beater car I bought for $3000 can't be found on the market anymore, you're going to be looking at $6-7k minimum nowadays.
It's a death trap on wheels, imagine driving on a highway going 55mph and a 18-wheeler swerves over... you're gone. Not a chance you'd live. You can buy a used Nissan Leaf for $7k, plus you get all the safety features and a working AC. The choice is clear, don't cheap out with your own life.
When you get a electric car with $4,500, the commentary should more focus on what this car is to offer than what it does not have.
The fact that this is made by Wuling/GM means that it's no joke. It's seriously good, considering the price.
The fact this even has back seats is impressive. Lots of cargo room for one person.
Buyers usually just use it for shopping, commuting, picking up and dropping off the kids, and putting things in the back row
Yeah same for me the moment i see it. Always thought it is a 2 seats but no it's 4. And the speed is up to 100km/h. I.expect.no.more.
Well, in China, and I think this car is still Chinese market only, the target audience is for intracity or suburn-city commuter, mommies to pickup, drop off kids, then go and buy groceries, etc. It has never meant to be outta than scale
The Beetle sold tremendously well in the 50s and 60s in spite of having all the negatives you mention. The Beetle sold for about $1500 in the 50s. That's about $15k today. And this costs about $5k. Quite a bargain.
his would be perfect for us... almost 100% of our driving is within 10 miles of home. Longer trip? We'd rent a car.
Acutually this car is a legalized version of "old man's joy" in rural China regions, those were used for visiting friends in the same village, doing grocery shoping and drive on quite roads with speed limit less than 30miles . Those cars used a legal loophole created 30 yrs before, so they can be purchased without registration or inspection and driven without a license. These are being banned gradually everywhere, and this little car is the next step up and can meet the state minimal requirement regrading safety and pollution, and you do need a license to drive it.

It's no more dangerous than a $4500 motorcycle for sure.
Perfect commute/shopping vehicle.
Even when it runs out of battery power on the road, I can try to carry it home with my two hands! The perfect car!
@Andi A
I want to do same thing, but it seems I need 10 hours under sun for extra 10 km range.
Carry a few power banks with you, just in case you need that extra charge.
Good news. The 2021 edition Mini EV will come with airbags as an option! Also range is increased to 200km on a full charge.
WuLing just upgraded it with larger battery (200km range) and fast-charge socket. And it's already the best selling EV in the Chinese market for the past two months.

I'd like a $10,000 version of this with good seats, real air conditioning and better tires and suspension. The top speed for this car of 100kmh is above the top speed limit on Grand Bahama island where I would use it. Normally you don't exceed about 40mph on the island.
Importing electric EV has a tariff of 25%. Importing gas is 50%. A 150km range will easily get you from freeport down to west end and back with plenty of range to spare and if you use solar to charge it with then the high cost of electricity in the Bahamas is not a factor.
You should have shown the cargo capacity with the rear seats down. Why anyone thinks that all cars need to drive 4 adults around is beyond me. I cannot tell you the last time I was in a car with 3 other people. It's not often that I'm in a car with even one other person.
The notion that a low end electric car should start at $35000 is insane. I just want to get to my destination reliably and have low maintenance and not be reliant on gasoline as a fuel.
Easy to drive, easy to park, and super cheap. It is a perfect car for young people lived in crowded city.
When you buy a CAR for 4.5k, it's already an excellent deal as long as it can move.
Love these small electric cars - we need more safe & compact ones in Australia. Currently, our cheapest model is around $34,000 USD (MG Motors ZS EV) - still far too expensive for the common man. This one is probably slightly too small for me but great inner city car

If one of the new Chinese EV startups could bring something like this to the EU/US markets they could well be on to a winner. Of course it would cost considerably more as it would have to meet our more stringent safety standards but if it could come in at somewhere around 7000 $/£ it could probably sell quite well.
It's amazing what offers for 4k! A truly smart car and covers the purpose for what cars are used the most; shot distances, one or two people in and groceries from local shops. Need more? Go and pay the price
This car is almost perfect for me. Use this for daily city driving. Cheap to buy and run. But need to improve it's safety features. Civic Type R manual for the weekend and long trips. Perfect pair
That is really impressive for the price. Thought a 10KWH battery would cost more than that.
It's quite obviously ideal as a city runabout where traffic never goes more than 30mph anyway. It seems ridiculous to be even discussing aircon and safety features in something that's designed as an alternative to walking or cycling...
The car in which I spent first 10 or so years of my life did not have A/C, electric stabilisator, airbag nor seatbelts for all the passagers, not to mention all the additional gadgets. I have heard Wuling was going to put airbags and seat belts in the new generation of this car. The thing which I find dangerous about this car is the small amount of metal in front of the driver seat. That doesn't look safe in case of an accident but again, this car was made for big cities full of traffic where you won't go over 40kph. The car is made for a specific purpose, although, even for cities with less traffic this car sounds like a really nice option, as long as you remember not to make rough turns and try not to drive too risky. The fact that this electric car costs 5k dollars makes it very attractive to me. If you are rich then you don't care, but that's the thing, there are a lot of cars for rich people out there, hopefully there will be more car companies which try to pander to ordinary people, not to their rich buyers. In the last decade most car companies seem to run away from producing simple, cheap cars for ordinary people.
