Unfortunately, my gf got even more negative due to cultural difference. She received white privilege treatment. But Chinese humbleness was interpreted by her as servile attitude which turned her off. She likes 不卑不亢 people.

I was born and raised from Taiwan, then came to America in 1986, had chance traveling many places since then. Vermont is most favorite state. When I visited there , It just made me felt it’s my home , I don’t feel as a foreigner （老中）, people don’t treat me like a foreigner （老外）either. You just attached and belonged the land. The air is fresh and free, people are nice and friendly, mountain is always green, water is clean. You just don’t want to leave there any more.

Katherine, last year I traveled to NW of Vermont frequently for work, loved the area. People there lived simpler lifes compare to the big cities. it's almost the season that the trees are changing colors now. the Stowe area is where I have drove through during the fall.

Good to see you back home ... Vermont will be beautiful next month in October with the fall color. Your Chinese definitely is easier to understand than many of the Southern Chinese's. You did pick up some of your husband's Northeastern Chinese accent when you say "啥都沒(méi)有“.
