South Korea’s Yoon in hot water over alleged ‘hot mic’ moment criticising US Congress譯文簡(jiǎn)介
South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol was caught by an open microphone reportedly calling US Congress “f***ers” after a photo op with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of a United Nations meeting on September 21, 2022. Biden had just pledged US$6 billion in contributions to the Global Fund, which fights HIV, tuberculosis and malaria worldwide. The funding is still awaiting approval from US Congress, which South Korean media said Yoon referred to when making the controversial comments to an aide. “How could Biden not lose damn face if these f***ers do not pass it in Congress?”, Yoon reportedly said. Yoon’s approval rating has dropped to 28 per cent following his first overseas visit as president. He lashed out at the domestic media on September 26, accusing them of damaging South Korea’s relationship with the US, a key ally.

While this may make the South Korean president look bad, I mean this when I say this, I think all of the U.S., if not, most of the citizens of the U.S. completely agree with him. The U.S. congress seems to never ever get anything done. When they do get something done, it is usually not in the interests of the citizens, but instead in the interests of who will make the most money for the U.S. economy. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is bad that they usually don't help the people (who they are supposed to be representing) first. Therefore Mr. Yoon should not have to apologize for revealing the unfortunate truth
You're absolutely right. But South Korea'e politics scene is equally corrupt. He wasn't making the comment out of concern for American citizens, it's more like he was laughing at the situation.
As an American, I agree and I don't get why he has to apologize. He is spot on.

Have to agree on this. Every time I vote, it is a choice between worse and worst. Congress is getting extremely short-sighted and corrupted (in form of donation). Yoon should not apologize.
What Yoon has done is highlight an aspect of democracy where the "cart is before the horse". The executive cannot make promises that they are unable to fulfill, that is the executive has to get pre-approval from Congress, then they can make the relevant promises to whoever.
I AM A KOREAN AMERICAN AND I AGREE WITH YOU 100%.
Dear President Yoon, 230 million Americans AGREE with you.
Im not sure 230 M americans gonna helping them to fight north korea
lol so he has to apologize for an honest descxtion of US congress. I mean even American themselves fully agree with him on that.
He needs that cash from US so he gotta please them
I pretty sure President Biden would agree with him.Given how partisan US politics is, the opposition would seek to delay, defer and shut down anything he proposes precisely because what they want to do is embarrass him.
President yoon in Korea is right I live in the US he should not even apologize. Because what he is saying is true.
I like his bluntness. Don't ever apologize for speaking what's on your mind.
he IS the president of SK tho. if he doesnt do so, relationship standings with US would be on thin ice. he knows better to maintain relationships than to standby the unspoken truth.
Most the American people agree with him, he’s saying what we’ve been saying but because he’s a president his word has more weight to it
Yes, what he said was correct. But when you represent a whole country you should be more careful with your words, especially if you intend on cursing
Agree. The “I do what I want” attitude proposed by comments on this video doesn’t apply to every situation. Public leadership entails responsibility and dignity. The SK President himself knew this as his words were meant to be private and he has made an explanation for the accidental slip.
He said it in private.
No need to be ashame sir, you speak what others want to say.
what's even worse is that he and his party denied their insulting to US Congress, and they have launched a lawsuit against the media for reporting it.
I support the south korean presidents opinion as an american
Kodos to Mr.Yoon, for saying something others dare not to say
He is just saying this in private. I don't think you need courage for shitting behind someone's back
First time seeing a politician swears
At least now the world know he's an honest man
Well he made up excuses to deny what he said..
No worries Mr. Yoon, the old Joe is at that age where he won't even remember what he just said 5 minutes ago...
Not sure why this is a problem. America take pride in freedom of speech, we actively call the opposing party enemy of the people anyway, so as an American, I don't find it an issue when he insults our congress. Frankly speaking, most of us probably hates them more than this guy does. lol.
I'm American and I agree with President Yoon. He is absolutely right in calling them that. I think that President Biden would agree with him in sharing the same sentiment. They are what he says. Overturning or stalling in passing laws or ignoring them altogether in their own interests makes me embarrassed to call myself American.
What do you expect? He's an Ex-lawyer. All lawyers curse like crazy. It's in his nature. Can't blame him.
It's so cute to see Koreans put back on their fallen masks...
Similar to Mr. Abe to the Japanese ??????, Mr. Yoon is the best president South Korean has ever had.
Did you even watch the full video? His approval rate is alrdy below 30%
I don’t think anyone in the US would be offended by this. The Congress has a low approval rating.
I respect what he said, more people need to speak up on the issues with Biden and the US congress
He has more guts than Modi

Hey President Yoon is just repeating what we Americans have been saying about Congress for decade.Gov can’t get anything done because of the two party deadlock. Bit odd coming from a Korean though.
Poor guy He's soon going to have to step down for health related issues.
he did, it's translated
A so called developed country who still need someone to protect them
“These fu**ers”.
Meh, that’s what we call them too.

The Korean race has a history of 5000 years, so of course it's different from America, which has a history of only a few hundred years.

I kinda agree with him.....but even if the USA is offended by it...never mind they will send BTS at the UN or White House to compensate....lol
