What greatness is there in our Indian culture?
What greatness is there in our Indian culture?
From the very early days,it was precepts like"Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (The whole world is one family),"Loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu" (May the entire world be happy)and "Sarve Jana sukhino bhavanthu" (May all people be happy) have been the guiding principles of Indian culture and Indian world vision.
In my opinion, the greatness of Indian culture lies in our universal vision and an empathy towards entire humanity.
It is another matter that the same culture has kept large swathes of population under inhuman conditions in the name of caste and gender bias, or that the neo-Nationalists of today invoke the same ancient Indian culture to divide people into good and evil or us versus them. I think this should not block or blur our own vision of this bedrock of Indian culture from ancient times.
1. Family bonding. I love the fact that I can always fall back to my parents, my sister, my sister's husband, his parents, my number of aunts, uncles, grandparents. Cousins who are my best friends. It's amazing. I never feel lonely though I live alone. We are taught to respect elders and love those younger to us. In a modern society, we can have open and honest discussions and we still live together by choice. In a way this gave way to love being the bonding factor rather than respect or fear. Summer holidays meant going to grandparents house, pranks were played with and on cousins and siblings. Aunts and uncles are like mom and dad. You have this whole force behind you.
2. Festivals: Every festival no matter the religion has amazing back stories and rituals. You wake up early, wear new clothes, clean the whole house, help elders, be a part of something so simple yet so beautiful. It teaches you team work when your dad, sister and you decorate the whole house with diyas for Diwali. Then we have some amazing food, learn about why we celebrate those festivals. I personally am not so religiously inclined, but I'm love the festivals. The pandals during ganapathi puja, diyas during Diwali, going to the mosque to eat yummy Haleem, kheer, kebabs during Ramzaan, the school Christmas plays. As a kid I didn't care which religion I had to follow, I just enjoyed everything. That's what I was taught and I still follow it today.
3. Cuisine: Oh My God!! I don't even know where to start. I don't think I've eaten half the dishes that are native to my own state Andhra Pradesh. The mouth watering mango pickle, rasam, fish from vizag, pickle, I could go on and on.
4. Clothes: oh so colorful!! Sarees, salwars, sherwanis and the jewelry. Every state has its own style of wearing traditional clothes and they look so beautiful.
India is a land of diversity. If used as a strength it could be a force to reckon.
What greatness is there in our Indian culture?
I won't be wrong if I refer india as a Pandora box. It withholds so many mysteries and never fails to awestruck you. You can love India or hate India but one simply cannot ignore India. Indian culture is among the world's oldest culture. And it keep attracting peoples and seekers all over the world to complete there spiritual quest. What makes Indian culture unique and great? Due to our thousands of years old civilization and tradition we Indians till today;
“Namaste” with our hands folded and head tilted down because we believe God resides in every human being and one must respect that person.
2. We speak so many dialects and look so different from each other, yet we managed to live peacefully
3. India is the only secular country with massive 1.3 billion people practising there faith over hundreds of year and yet no one bothers each other. India is the only country that is home to almost all the religions of the world. You name name it,we have it.
4. We still prefer to eat with hand while most of the countries have switched over to spoons and fork. Because we believe the food taste best when eaten with hands and also give the sense of satisfaction and full. Many people will find it gross to eat with hands, but trust me it gives better sense of judgement about the food when your are feeling the temperature, texture and consistency with your bare hands.

如果我把印度稱為潘多拉盒子,我不會錯。它隱藏了非常多的奧秘,總是讓你敬畏。你可以愛印度,也可以恨印度,但不能忽視印度。印度文化是世界上最古老的文化之一。它不斷吸引著世界各地的人們和尋求者來完成他們的精神追求。是什么使印度文化獨特而偉大?因為我們至今已經(jīng)擁有幾千年的文明和傳統(tǒng);
6. We still have the concept of living with our parents and joint family. We believe that, once we are competent enough, it's our responsibility to take care of our parents and elder ones who supported us while we were small. Also living in a joint family keeps your family tradition alive, allows your children to inherit there culture and roots, learn family value and avoids them from getting bad influences. We can always look upon them when we are down and can celebrate our life with them.
7. We believe in “Atithi devo bhava”. Which means, we believe guests are form of God. The reason behind this is that service to humans is service to god. They could have gone to anywhere else, but chose to come to you with the expectation that you will treat them well. Also that will fetch you Punya (holy reward). I must request you all to please come once to India and experience our Indian hospitality.
8. Our diffrent take on hygiene and cleanliness is something that is interesting. Hold on your horses, before jumping on and commenting about the filthy streets and garbage, I would like to tell you that we still are a poor nation with massive population. But soon we will tackle that too. But for now, let me enlighten you with the fact that we take off our footwear while going visiting someones house or while we are at our own houses as we Indian have our temple and quran inside and it will be disrespectful. Also we can keep away dirt and filth and germs outside. Most of us walk bare feet inside the house. And also we prefer water rather than a toilet paper to clean ourselves as it is best in terms of cleanliness and hygiene point of view.
這也會給你帶來Punya(神圣的獎勵)。
What makes Indian culture amazing?
Unity in Diversity
The single most important thing that distinguishes India from almost any other country is her richness of diversity. If you try to see the Indian culture as just one monolithic culture, then you fail to appreciate the complex diversity of cultures and people that reside here.
People belonging to a zillion religions, sub-religions, castes and sub-castes stay here harmoniously with each other. Historically, almost every other major empire and its ruler had tried to invade and conquer India, but instead got lost in this rich unified cultural heritage and became a part of this magical soil. From Alexander to Mongols (Mughals) and from British to Portuguese, the same story had been repeated throughout history.
Geographically, India cannot be compared to any single country, but a large continent such as Europe or America. Each state such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, etc. corresponded to one or more separate kingdoms during the medi times such as Vidarbha, Kalinga, Magadha, etc. Each of these states today has a separate culture and language. The Gujaratis celebrate Vikram Samvat as the New Year during the time of Diwali, whereas the Marathis celebrate Gudi Padwa. The North Indians like to play with colors during Holi, whereas the South Indian Keralites enjoy the boat race during the time of Onam. It was the British invasion that made us see this unity in diversity once again, and the resulting freedom movement that ultimately led to the creation of the Indian Republic.
Coming back to your question, its amazing how in a massive country of 29 states and 7 unx territories, everyone coexists peacefully and harmoniously with a sense of national unity and belonging! Nowhere in the world are you going to get such an example. The 50 states of US aren’t so diverse if you look at their cultures and languages. Nor is China that boasts of being the largest country population wise is as diverse when you look at its culture.

fasting once in a week in the name of god leads to good health by releasing not needed toxins.
What greatness is there in our Indian culture?
Indian culture is very diverse. The culture of India refers collectively to the thousands of distinct and unique cultures of all religions and communities present in India. India's languages, religions, dance, music, architecture, food, and customs differs from place to place within the country.
There are many unique things about Indian culture. I will list few of them here..
The Namaste
The namaste is one of the most popular Indian customs. The Namaste, or ‘namaskar’, or ‘namaskaara’ is one of the five forms of traditional greetings mentioned in the ancient Hindu scxtures, the Vedas. It literally translates to “I bow to you”, and greeting one another with it is a way of saying “May our minds meet”, indicated by the folded palms placed before the chest. The word ‘namaha’ can also be translated as ‘na ma’ (not mine), to signify the reductions of one’s ego in the presence of the other.
India also sees a large number of festivals, mainly because of the prence of diverse religions and groups.
3. Joint Families
Also, in India, there exists the concept of a joint family, wherein the entire family (parents, wife, children and in some cases relatives) all live together. This is mostly because of the cohesive nature of the Indian society, and also reportedly helps in handling pressure and stress.
4. The Science Behind Temples
Most temples are located along magnetic wave lines of the earth, which help in maximizing the available positive energy. The copper plate (called Garbhagriha or Moolasthan) buried under the main idol absorbs and resonates this energy to its surroundings. Going to the temple often helps in having a positive mind and garnering positive energies, which in turn lead to healthier functioning.
It is also a practice to take off footwear before entering places of worship because they would bring in the dirt to an otherwise cleansed and sanctified environment.
5. Atithi Devo Bhavah
In India, the saying “Atithi Devo Bhavah” is also integral. It means “the guest is equivalent to god”. It is a Sanskrit verse taken from the Hindu scxtures which later became a part of the “Code of conduct” for Hindu society, since the guest has always been of supreme importance in the culture.
6. Indian Ethnic Wear
Indian women are often seen sporting ‘saris’. The sari is a single cloth and needs no stitching; it is easy to make and comfortable to wear, and also adheres to religious etiquette. It initially started out as a Hindu tradition but has very elegantly spread across all religions.
