It's often an excellent combination of tasty, cheap, nutritious, and easy-to-cook.

Chilli, turmeric, garam, hing, coriander powder and salt are the commonly used spices. Use kashmiri chilly powder to get a beautiful red color. It's not spicy
I learned to eat curry in England. Had the worst and best curry of my life there.
The first one I had was a mild one with fruits in it. I'm not sure what it was called. I prefer vindaloo and jalfrezi.
Honestly the Indian food there isn't really authentic. Go to India, you'll be blown away
I have a family friend that is personally giving me homemade vegetarian Indian food. Indian food is one of the few vegetarian meals I look forward to eating. Forreal my death row meal would just straight up curry.
One of the worlds great cuisines. I love the regional differences and deep flavors.
Absolutely. And I love their vegetarian food as well!
True. The different flavors between the North and the South are so different. I'm Indian so I can verify
Love it. I think it's the cuisine with the most variety for vegetarians, and most of it can be easily veganised too.
Love it. Love everything I've ever tried... except bitter melon, just not for me! Indescribable variety.
Love it. Brit here who spend some time in South India (Karnataka mostly) and I fell in love with the cuisine, especially the spices and vibrant flavours, Masala Dosa is my go-to meal. British Indian restaurants are very different (with a few outstanding exceptions in each city of course).
I love it. Growing up anyone who made Indian food just thought loading something up with hot spices was Indian food. When I went on a UN mission to Africa we stayed on a camp run by Germans but the kitchen was run by Indians so there were usually a couple authentic Indian dishes to choose from for lunch and supper. They were mostly vegetarian but I'd often pick them if I was not keen on the meat option.
In terms of generalized national cuisines, Indian is my least favorite. Apart from a few dishes, I avoid it entirely.
Which food did you eat?
I made saag paneer once, don't know if I made it correctly but it tasted amazing
Indian food is like Chinese food in that the range of quality is insane. Most of the time I'll hear someone say Indian food is bad, then list off a local throw together buffet cheap restaurant or the food court one that does 5$ specials at the end of day.

Not necessarily. My mom puts a lot of meat in my food. You are right about the love and care though. If you see an Indian Aunty (Aunty means a person who looks like an Indian/ wears Indian clothes)is cooking the food, it most likely gonna good.

Agreed. We love meat in our household. I think the game changer is how they source and prep their ingredients. Is everything fresh - meat and veg . Are they grinding their own spices . Are they making their own curry bases or are they getting pre boxed shit ( which can be good just never blows me away ) I think ( as an Indian dude who cooks a lot of indian food ) it's about patience and layering of flavors to create a complex end result. In this you'll go to one house and have chicken kadahi and to another and they'd be slightly different in a good unique way. But I fuckin love my chicken so you best bet there's going to be a bunch of that.
I went to a great Indian restaurant once with two dining rooms - one vegetarian, and one non-vegetarian. The waiter told me that, traditionally, Indians do not eat meat, as the religion does not believe in killing. Therefore, they can eat dairy, but not meat, but that a lot of Indians are modern and do like to eat meat. Would you say that this is accurate?
It's a very big country with diverse religions and world views. The only Indian religion I can think that doesn't eat ANY meat is Jains and I don't think they're many? But I'm also second generation so I don't actually know a whole lot any India from a living there standpoint
My secret for finding a good restauraunt of an ethnicity that is not your own, is to find the one that is not too busy and has a few tables of angry old people of that ethnicity scowling that a damn foreigner is ruining their good time.
I had a coworker who said she didn't like Indian food, I took her to a restaurant and guided her through the menu, then she got completely hooked on it and wanted to go all the time. lol
Agreed about the range, but bad Indian food is so much better than bad Chinese food! Same with homemade cooking: making simplified, inauthentic "Indian" dishes can be super easy with a great payoff....but then you know when you go buy it at a decent restaurant the upgrade will blow your mind.

I disagree with this. If it happens to be a meat dish, then there should be plenty of meat. A 90/10 ratio of curry to meat is off imo.
I genuinely love Indian food but it's hard to find good quality where I live.
have visited Pune and Mumbai for work, however I have a very low tolerance for spicy food, so things did not go well. No doubt the food was well made and tasted delicious to my colleagues - but I could only manage 2 bites and then I switched to plain rice and bread. Tragic.
If you don't mind my asking, is it GI tract issues or tongue/mouth issues for spiciness? I have geographic tongue and I worry about ever having food someone else describes as spicy because most days I cannot tolerate it. I make some of my own Indian-inspired dishes and avoid the chili seeds and can usually be just fine.

not at all. tongue/mouth issues primarily. Everything burned and then I couldn't taste anything else. So every next bite was flavorless burning. I LOVE food and new culinary experiences but this got to the point of trauma because I would look at a meal and think "everything burns" and would then be afraid to eat - and I HATED feeling that way. If I would have had to continue to travel to these locations, no doubt I would have begun to research how to build up tolerance.
The only Indian food I am familiar with is curry, and I only know about it because it's popular in Japan. I even thought it was a Japanese food at first, until I read a Japanese comic where one of the characters was told curry wasn't Japanese, which he thought it was, because he was Japanese himself (so I guess curry in Japan is sort of like hamburgers in USA).

If you want a standard plate of Japanese curry, the most common restaurant all over Japan is Coco Ichibanya. Its really good, and was a regular haunt for American service members while I was stationed there. You can get better curry at other restaurants you'd want to seek out opinions from a reddit for that.

Let's be honest here. Most Indian dishes are just tomato puree with these 5 spices in different amounts

I live in the US and I love Indian food although I don't think I've had anything very authentic recently. Growing up my best friend was Indian so when her grandparents would visit we would eat so much delicious home cooked Indian food. I still crave the aloo gobi they made and whenever I've got it from a restaurant it's been completely different.
