Now I have a much smaller house with central air. When my sister lived here she tried to abide by a modified version of those temps, and I couldn’t sleep. I’m a woman and I know I’m the minority but I run hot, I’m an athlete just always ran hot. The only reason living in (and you know our winters are no joke, Alberta here) and the reason I keep ANY heat on in the winter is so my precious dog baby doesn’t turn into a pupsicle and that my pipes don’t freeze. Or I’d be happy as a clam with no heat! Now flip that switch to summer and pets can and will die if left in a house too hot, same with humans. You absolutely wouldn’t be fine with no heat. I guarantee you’d die in your sleep. Turning your heat off in your house for a day is nothing compared to turning it off for a week or even months in winter. It was -40 Celsius / -40 degrees Fahrenheit in Alberta this past January. You may be able to tolerate cold of 5 or 10 degrees less more comfortably than the average Canadian but you’re not a polar bear.

I can't do this because
1) Someone is home over 95% of the time.
2) I sleep during the day when it's already hot as fuck right now.
3) I work in a hot as fuck manufacturing plant. I will not let the only place I have my preferred climate controlled comfort be my 15 minute commute in my truck.

People who aren’t acclimated to that environment can’t tolerate it. That seems pretty obvious to me. I lived in temperate coastal Calif most of my life, where the temp averages between 50-70 year round, even in summer and winter. No AC was ever needed. One year we had a heatwave of 85 degrees for a week straight and so many people were hospitalized for heat exhaustion. It’s actually pretty serious

Just going to toss this out there because your average citizen keeping their homes cool are a small part of the issue. I know the below statement sounds crazy but yet 100% true.
Data centers usually use a lot of energy to maintain their servers. They consume about 1,000 kWh per square meter. This is about ten times the power consumption of a typical American home.
For sure though the 5 to 8degrees is the issue.. Yes our founding fathers would be ashamed that the US citizen personal data and privacy get robbed every day by servers that also use 10X the energy…
