The meaning of travel is to experience the unknown and the different
When an American takes a 12-hour flight to a travel destination,
he finds that people here speak American English, eat McDonald's, discuss Trump's shooting, and are keen on the NBA league.
He must think that buying this ticket is a stupid choice.
China is so different, which is the key reason why many Westerners visit China. If some people are unhappy about this, then staying at home would be a better choice.

Shanghai disney is largest disney, and brand new. more characters.

Depending on which Chinese we are talking about. Some Chinese do, especially the young in big cities. The majority of Chinese don’t. And Chinese is a big population. A tiny portion of that population might result in millions and even tens of millions of people. So don’t be surprise when you find both types :)
I have never cared about the NBA, once someone told me that Kobe died because of a plane crash, I hope I can say a few words of mourning.I said I didn't know who Kobe was, and I didn't mourn his death. If I had to mourn the death of someone on the far side of the earth, I'd be exhausted.
He talked to me for a long time about Kobe's greatness and what kind of person he was, and finally I concluded by saying, "It was a good half hour of lunch break, now we should go to work."
NBA, like most US exports, is about selling Americana asich as sports. Take away that allure and you have just games. Much like an artwork being considered blotches of paintwork.
Yo! Nailed it.
喲!說對(duì)了。
Language is an exception: travel experience would be so much richer (easier too but not my point) if you could interact with anybody anywhere.
Upset is not the right word though. I know that magic will not happen.
You upset don't go. Learn Mandarin
he finds that people here speak American English, eat McDonald's, discuss Trump's shooting, and are keen on the NBA league.
This would be a funny skit.
I do think that Chinese people talk about America more than any other country, though.
very ugly american expecting foreign countries to service them in american english particularly when american dollar is worth much less than twenty years agi
My opinion can be summed up in rolling my eyes. How presumptive and arrogant to expect people in non-English speaking countries to speak English for the sake of tourists? That defies common sense.
Sure, many people in China have some English ability from learning some in school, and many are quite eager to practice it with foreigners visiting (although some may be uncomfortable or afraid of speaking incorrectly and pretend they don’t know any), but no one should go there with the assumption that they will be understood by everyone wherever they go, and with a level that reaches fluency.
But for heaven’s sake, do not expect an entire country to learn English for your arrival. Who do you think you are? Supreme Overlord of the World?
Not only China. I’ve visited many countries around the world (in Latin America, Europe, Russia) and not everybody speaks English. If you’re a tourist, you should expect language issues.
I love Google translate. My favorite sushi spot is run by mandarin speakers. The sushi chef speaks no English but we communicate through Google.

Thanks Annie for voicing out with rational logic to this sort of nonsense question. The first person crossing my mind is an Indian female YouTuber who visited China recently. Anyone who is interested in what she behaved and said during her stay can search online. It can seen as another offbeat answer…
The most wonderful people are those who are able speak multiple languages, not only dialects.
Why must always please one. Why not the other way round?
I'll give you this - in both Canada and Australia I studied college. In both were numerous Chinese students who talked frequently in Mandarin during lectures, and during classes. When lecturers complained, they were accused en masse of being “racist”.
When Chinese students were caught using AI and cheating, it was “racist”.

I don’t think that it’s many. Maybe a few and it’s not just in China, it’s the same in Spain, France, Germany etc etc. One problem for native English speakers (like myself) is that so many people around the world speak English as soon as they hear someone trying to speak their language they immediately switch to English, and usually speak it to a far higher standard than the English speaker speaks French, Spanish, German Mandarin etc.
Knowing and using a bit of the local language does help though. While travelling through Europe I was made to feel welcome in some very local bars because I at least attempted to speak their language.

Jack Ma learnt his English through foreign tourist!
English though widely spoken is the language of the Anglosacon who were genocidal barbarians colonialist who burn, raped and plunder many countries and regions around the world. Why should the world speak English when there are much more Chinese speakers in the entire world planet and when you are entering the domain of 1.4b Chinese you are and should be happy that they don’t insist that you speak Chinese or get the hell out of China!!!
They got upset because they were expecting China to flatter them.
They showed up as someone from higher societies.
They visited China like a colonizer inpsecting colony.
They expect Chinese people saying “what can I do for you, Sir/Madam?”.
I recall myself being a tour guide in Switerzland, and the bus driver was an Italian.
He didn’t speak much English, and I couldn’t understand Italian at all. Still, we managed talking to each other when the tourists when off for a tour sight.
He told me that his wife would make him pasta, and he could eat a lot. He used hands to make a shape of mountain, and said “Mount Blanc”, and I immedietly understood what he said. He was referring to the pasta plate which the pasta got piled like a mountain, that’s how much he liked his wife’s cooking.
He also told me to have a pizza magarita+napoli. Till today I am not sure what that is, but he told me that’s the best pizza.
Language could be the barrier, but it won’t stop kind people from communicating with each other.
If some people are upset because “most people in China don't speak English”, they’d better go somewhere else where they wouldn’t be upset even when the locals don’t speak English.
Because they obviously have problems with China, but anything specific.
When immigrants come to the US and can't speak English, they get yelled at “Learn English. in America we speak English.”
Yet when they to go to a country like China they ask “Why doesn't anyone speak English.”
They should think “Learn Chinese. In China we speak Chinese.”
Leave your linguistic imperialism at the border.
