What does the lukewarm response of Chinese netizens towards the Paris Olympics imply about the current Chinese government?

May be some Chinese are turned off by this..
In fact, many Westerners are also disgusted by some things. Look at what they did at the opening ceremony.

I ain’t bothered by this. I know what’s good or bad for mankind.
Not bothered by this crap, but it is crap none the same
@JM
I think people are just more worried about their own situations. Tightening belts etc
Maybe they shouldn't be so closed minded?
Pathetic people are trying to gain recognition by attacking national leaders personally.
Chinese people have so many entertainment options, I read a report where they said Chinese people spend hundreds of millions of dollars watching 1 minute skits, which is obviously much more interesting than the Olympics

the timing of the Olympics often clashes with Chinese working hours. The Chinese are hardworking; they are busy with work during the day and often with overtime in the evening. When the Olympic live broadcast starts, many people might be buried in piles of documents or on their way home. "Ah, I have to finish this report first, otherwise, I will have to work overtime tomorrow."
with the proliferation of the internet and mobile devices, people's entertainment options have become more diverse. Young people are more inclined to play games on their phones, watch short videos, rather than sit in front of the TV to watch live broadcasts. "The Olympics? Oh, I know about it, but I'd rather play with TikTok and watch funny videos."
yep
是的。
does anyone care what Chinese think?

Chinese usually enjoy their gays being really good looking men. So this would be a turn off.
Firstly you know absolutely nothing about the Chinese people.
Secondly, this is not a display of handsomeness or ugliness but a display of monstrous makeup which at the same time is insulting a major religion.
Like you, many people in the west don't have basic human values and decency.
I am Chinese people. China had to cancel so many popular TV shows because the male leads were being portrayed as gay inclined.
Not gay inclined but effeminate. But perhaps a gay like you know better. In any case, the ban is the right thing to do.
Effeminate has been code for gay for many years. Everyone knows it including the censors. That’s why effeminate has been banned. Effeminate men were VERY popular in Chinese TV.
A gay like you have your own interpretation. I can't interfere with that.
It does seem like you had lots of prison sex. You are just giving that off with all of your gay replies.
A gay like you have your own gay perspective.
Another gay filled response from you.
It is not the Chinese people but people in most countries who are indifferent to the Olympics. After all, the Olympics are sports activities. People who are not interested in sports will not pay attention to the Olympics.
The Chinese people's indifference to the Olympics has no impact on the Chinese government. The government cannot gain advantages or disadvantages from the people's reaction.
None of the big three - football, basketball and baseball - made it to the Olympic final.
Most Chinese are disappointed.
Above all, they wasted a lot of taxpayers' money.
The huge team brought not only air conditioners, but even a team of cooks and fine porcelain with them.
Being corrupt and extravagant is shameless.
Instead of relying on government subsidies, most Chinese want sports to be commercialized, like in the United States.
From what I have read about the conditions of Paris Olympics. 1. Bringing air conditioners was correct move as there is no air conditioning in the Olympic village dormitory. Many athletes have been complaining how hot and uncomfortable the rooms are. As athletes they need good rest to compete at this level. 2. Many athletes have complained there isn't enough food offered at the Olympic cafeteria. China bringing their own cooks makes a lot of sense as diets and Chinese food required by Chinese athletes would be different from others. This is a great anticipation. 3. Porcelain hardware. I assume they could have opted for disposable or stainless steel etc. To me, China was well prepared and they didn't want food and good rest be control by others. As with cost, it is probably still cheaper than for example team USA, just alone their basketball team booking entire hotel cost.
not sure how baseball makes into a top three… are you sure you are Chinese?
As China has made remarkable achievements in various fields, the self-confidence of its people has been enhanced, and they no longer rely solely on Olympic gold medals to prove their national strength. As CNN pointed out, as China's self-confidence continues to rise, the Olympics is no longer seen as the latest opportunity for China to demonstrate its national strength.
and rank eighth on the olympic ladder like the sliding downhill america
Looks like the CIA psyops program improved quite a bit. Still a bit too obvious though. Like who tf actually watch let alone play baseball in China?

Exactly. No one I have spoken to is a fan of our current exploitative system, to both athletes and taxpayers. With that kind of money, I prefer seeing gyms and community centers being built. Medal count is useless.
Bharat?

The values and interests of young Chinese people are also changing. They are paying more and more attention to personal development, career planning and quality of life, which may make them no longer as enthusiastic about major sports events as their predecessors.
I thought you were going to constructively criticize China with points and comparisons, that's the reason I viewed your post
After the climax, things will always return to normal. First, China is not the era of annual economic growth of more than 10% in the past. Although poor at that time, people were more motivated. Now that the economy has entered a period of economic flatness, life is not too bad, and people are more concerned about their own lives.
Second, it is not an era where a few gold medals can improve national self-confidence. There are many things that can make people proud, but everything is normal.
I don’t know what happened to you, I just think that the more unhappy you are, the more you should stay away from the Internet. There is too much negative energy on the Internet. Only after emptying your mind can you start again with ease
In the past, the Olympics were often seen as a symbol of national honor and national pride. However, as the country's soft power improves and its international status consolidates, young people may be less likely to lix personal emotions with national honor, and their attitude towards the Olympics may be more rational and obxtive.
Chinese netizens are interested in the Paris Olympics. We just don't care so much about gold medals anymore, because we don't have cognitive dissonance anymore, and we don't need to prove ourselves too much to find our own value. We see people from various countries sharing with us the beauty and cuisine of Paris, as well as the joy and setbacks they experienced during their travels, just like we went to Paris in person. We enjoyed this sports meet just like we enjoyed the World Cup in Qatar - we participated in sports and made contributions to the world, and we had fun and found friendships. When we see athletes from North Korea, South Korea, and China taking a group photo under the same camera after winning medals, we are truly happier than even having won all the medals. When we see athletes sharing joy, we are also spread with smiles.

When Greatest China and ever greater Chinese are unleashed onto international social english media, the low life trash americk psywar-liars are inundated.
Chinese young people's perception of sports is gradually changing. They are more inclined to participate in and enjoy sports activities themselves, rather than just watching the games as spectators. This emphasis on participation and experience may make them less interested in events such as the Olympics that they watch from a distance.
They prefer to spend time in the gym and on the basketball court rather than sitting in front of the TV eating potato chips
them Eat dog meat, yes most people eat dog meat, don't lie to me, I am of Chinese descent
“eat dog yes most eat dogs don’t lie to me I’m Chinese bloodline”. Thats the biggest bullshit lie i have heard and i am not even Chinese. Criticize fairly don’t dehumanize. You are a racist dude. I suggest people don't report you as people need to see the level of hate, anti china folks like you spit out.
Maybe this guy with Chinese bloodline is Filipino.
LM, go do your homework, "Chinese bloodline".
You're the one eating dogs as your character is comparable to a hog with a peanut brain.
Dirty Sanchez has Chinese blood line? Lol. Go eat loco mucho pollo taco
You can react emotional about this topic, I went to China couple of years ago. But do you know what..? The Chinese don't care what you think. Most of them having a good life. Those caged elderly are in Hong Kong. You know where all those freedom fighters caused a lot of riots in 2019. Always using the dog meat issue, when you western people eat other animals, but dogs are from heaven of course.

The Chinese netizens attitude is probably like this:
Tokyo Olympics: I know Japan wanted to make it a good one, but it turned out to be shit. But anyway, it looks like chocolate.
Los Angeles Olympics: We believe that the Los Angeles Olympics will be the most shit-like, but in order for us to see the biggest shit, we decided to reduce the criticism of the Paris Olympics.
That's because the quality of Paris Olympics is nowhere near to the Olympics hosted by Chinese. From the opening ceremony to actual facilities, from culture to values, give me a list of what is attractive?
Of course we are interested in the Olympic Games. We feel proud when our team wins gold medals. But we have other higher priorities in our “to do” list. The Western “Wokeies” talk about “balance lifestyle” - we have our balance lifestyle too - we work hard to earn our living and evenings maybe watch some Olympic but not addicted to it.

And full support for the Palestinian team
