Having lived in China for many years, I would say the best part is not having to worry too much about safety. There's never really a risk of being robbed or held at gun point and the cities are quite nice to walk around in at night. I lived in SF for a number of years, and it's terrifying to see how crime and homelessness became so prent in the city.
Yup. Except for the young party set Americans don't venture out at night time much because risk to personal safety is too great. I would personally call that a human rights violation but others will call it a personal choice...one that is enforced by, erh, circumstances.
Well it's really a low standard...China is better than that.
It looks that people are enjoying their life with freedom to drink in public. And it’s nice to be able to walk at night without worrying being robbed or shot like in the US!
You must live a sheltered life lol
@hhghfhhfh6146 You must live on Mars
@hhghfhhfh6146 it’s true tho. As someone living in US, I’m indeed worried about being robbed or harassed even in day time.

That's real freedom
@sunnydaysddt2068 Maybe you should toughen up, living your life in fear isn't living
But killed for smoking a joint how free is that?
Its totally Awesome in China..everyone so friendly
@davidlist7507 When How where? Come back with fax
? @jameelmohammed4995 Yea...girls should toughen up. Old people should toughen up. Don't let the fear of rape, robbery, assault and murder prevent you from enjoying your nightlife or exploring the hoods.

You can never imagine an accident of shooting and robbing in Shanghai, no matter day or night.
??? @davidlist7507 Why you'd smoke/possose a joint anyway in China?
@sunnydaysddt2068 it’s not true though as someone who lives in Compton, California and all over the country. Lolol a bunch of foreigners talking about things they have no idea about is wild

Shanghai is the best city in the whole world and Shenzhen is the second to the list. No crimes, no lay-offs, no poverty, no noise, no racism, no sleep.
I work in Shanghai, but my hometown is a small city in central China, and I can say that most cities in China are like this.
I don't know if are being ironic, but I worked on the most racist company in Shanghai, ETW International, ETW國際. It ended up with the boss, aka fake english name Marty Guo, threaten me that would cut my head off, in front of my wife. I don't agree with the paradise that you are painting.
Shanghai certainly has everything you said, but it is covered up by the obsession with money and money
no way. chengdu is better.shanghai too hectic.
@pedroserapio8075
Wait, in front of your wife? What happened? Why your wife come to your company and meet your boss?
? @pedroserapio8075 No matter how good the place is, there is always something else that is out of normal and what is happening to you is one of those something out of normal? And you cannot use minority of negative to make generalization of one city or country. I had good time there when I worked on a project.

@pedroserapio8075 collect evidence and sue. Threats like that are illegal in China, you can get the guy fired!

Hangzhou is the best one with good mix of modern technology and tradition

? @pedroserapio8075 First of all, I sincerely apologize to you for that rude Chinese and bad remarks. I'm a graduating Chinese college student, and the root cause of this mistake is that most of the previous generation in China didn't have a good education.
There's no law about drinking in public so it is perfectly legal. In addition, there's no minimal drinking/smoking age in China. Chinese law is more relax in this area compared to that of USA.
but no drugs, we are not tolerant in that regard.
@tao2869 drug = death penalty
drug =死刑
Um I’m pretty sure the legal drinking age is 18? And most shops won’t sell cigarettes and alcohol to underage people.
on drink and drive in china, not even a beer is tolerated.
@mitnato There is no death penalty for taking drugs, but the death penalty for selling drugs over a certain weight
The drinking age in China is 18 years old, but the regulations are not so strict, but drugs are very strict in China. Selling drugs may result in the death penalty, and drug users may go to prison!
@tao2869 Considering their history with opium wars not just 1 but 2, that makes total sense.
@mitnato hopefully the scientists can invent some efficient medicine to get rid of drug addiction, a magic pill to heal the world.
@greentea8852 You got it. The whole coutry almost crashed because of the two wars caused by opium, so Chinese people hate drugs very much. 50g drugs might lead to a death penalty before.
@blueiguana430 jokes on you, I used to buy hard liquior for my dad and cigerates for my uncle while in 6th grade
@bfc4837 that’s not right. If you are carrying more than 50g (even marijuana), you are risking your life for death penalty
@serriajohn magic pill for drug addiction? Nah, that s not fair, people should face the consequences for their stupid chose s.
@yushion5804 US have so many biolabs, why not invent some medicine to get rid of drug addiction? this drug addiction is killing USA.
@serriajohn no pills for stupidity, drug addiction problem is MADE by US herself, politicians want the votes, IRS wants the tax, people wants the freedom to fall, just take the consequences honestly, people have got their fun after all.
That is human rights and personal freedom 365 days when you can drink and smoke in public ! In North America you cannot drink in public or smoke even in your own car or a walk in the park !
@yushion5804 If you have a 18-year-old boy who is a drug addict, homeless person on streets, and you cut off tie with your boy for some years because you do not believe your boy can get rid of drug. and , one day, you watched on TV that a newly developed medicine can heal the drug addiction , 4 weeks program with absolute heal of addiction, 100 K dollar, money refund guarantee if it does not work. would you consider to pay for the treatment?
@yushion5804 no one left behind= no soldier left behind= no schook kid left behind = no homelessnese left behind = no drug addict left behind, this is what a government shall consider, by the people , for the people, serve the people, no one is left behind. without this spirit, a nation is dead.
@blueiguana430 not really, you can say you buy cigarettes for your Dad?
@mitnato Taking drugs in China is as personal freedom as in the United States, and it is not a serious crime. However, drug trafficking is a very serious illegal act with extremely serious consequences.
@jsc3417 I said most shops..of course some don’t care about the rules especially the smaller retailers. But you can’t just say the rules are not there.
@blueiguana430 I just learned this law today.
Now, you know u may need a year or more if you wanted to know China deeper, not just big cities but places like Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, even Ti... You will definitely be impressed by the variety of cultures and languages and it's own character and beauties in China, but yet all live in harmony, this is the Chinese type of democracy, don't be brain washed by the biased western medias ?????
Thank you for showing me my hometown, I MISS Shanghai ;(. You can’t even walk around at night in SF,CA without worrying about personal safety and there is not much to see anyway. CHINA number 1 and I hope you enjoy china and spread more love around the world! China is not a threat and we need to work together to make a peaceful world!
Well both of our governments are a threat tbh, but the average person doesn't want wars.
This is what looks like when a country operates in capitalism under a Com...ism regime. Safe, clean & no drug addict.
Exactly lol
only in US illegal to drink in the street but legal carry weapons in the street
That is kinda weird. Why would Americans think alcohol is more dangerous than a gun?
Imagine people carry guns and also drunk, dangerous combination.
I have been wondering why drinking in public is illegal in US.
@yfexl-1584 The short answer is control, the long answer is tax and money. If allowing people to drink in public, people can buy alcohol at the market at lower prices and pay less in taxes. Forcing people to buy and drink only at certain locations, you have to pay higher prices, create more jobs and collect more taxes. Also, guns and alcohol don't go well together and since you can't banned guns, it's easier to control alcohol.
? @user-zk5zv3en4s it is called rule based order

@user-zk5zv3en4s Americans are allowed to carry guns and drive since 16 but not allowed to drink until 21, funny as hell
and legal to smoke marijuana in many states of USA then blaming China for their drug problem.
? @user-zk5zv3en4s Drinking on the streets definitely cause more traffic accidents and violence in the American society.
night life has a different meaning in China or even the east south Asia...they have a clubing bar hopping night life too but drinking is so so so so so free there that it redefined bar hopping so the night life in China is for everyone from eating clubbing and just all entertainment you like... not like most of the west where at 7 o'clock the place is dead for only sexted place only... lol that's night call night life.....and like most people speaking on this... you are 99 percent not going to get shot...
I played ice hockey in Shanghai for 2 years semi-professionally and you know I spoke the language and everything and when I extremely happy somedays and extremely depressed somedays. China is a very interesting place and one word that describes China perfectly is 矛盾 I leave it to you guys to research and explore the philosophy behind that Chinese character.

100x better than the best part of the states
This is not the nightlife in Shanghai, the nightlife there is like the nightlife in Manhattan or LA, but 10 folds larger every single night and not just Friday or Saturday nights. Venues like M Live House are packed with live gigs and are packed full to the hilt every single night unlike in the US which is just a weekend thing.
