Such an interesting video about Yunnan's smaller villages. The lifestyle is more like a village, simpler and closer to the agriculture. Yet it is easy to see the warmth and hospitality from the people. It is lovely scenery, made even more so by the friendly people. It is good the authorities are modernizing homes and buildings--it is important to improve quality of life & opportunity for rural parts of China. Well done

This video is an eye-opener, where we really get to know the real rural China. Life is still backward and food is basic only. However, I note that the people are very happy with their way of life. Life in villages is basically the same, all over the world, despite the external differences. These scenes from China look familiar to me, here in Greece - even the village gotherings, when everybody contribute and eat together, is a very common sight in celebrations, marriages, fairs etc.!

Such communities could not have survived in north America for long. The indigenous peoples had their societies destroyed and today their descendants have lost even their native names. Even the Amish communities are now being threatened. It's wonderful that these people have been able to preserve their tradition in China.

Yan, thumbs up for your video. I used to think only Java, Indonesia has terraced rice fields. But, here Yunnan also has, and by Hani ethnic group. I recall when my grandma died in Laos, my family also threw meals for one whole month. Anyone who past by could join us and ate. This was at all not a potluck, and we are Han ethnic. But, the mentality behind the event might well be different. Some might see this event as a way to show off the wealth of the deceased family. At the time, we were the richest Chinese in Laos, hence the richest too. Now, our family spread like Jew all over the world, ranging from France, China, US, Australia, Canada to me in Singapore. Perhaps still a handful behind in Laos.

Most likely the Hani tribe is the ancestor to a lot of ethnic groups in today's Indonesia. Our history education here in Indonesia also taught us that native Indonesians used to came from Yunnan.

In all my travels in China, I thought the most awesome terraces were in Guizhou, but your drone images of this place remind me I have not been everywhere in China. Such an interesting Hani culture that has been in existence for centuries. Although still some what poor generally, I believe their living standards have never been better throughout their existence and can only get better with tourism. These Hani people have demonstrated such humility and kindness, their lives and thoughts still untouched by the geopolitics of hate and racism.

My grandma's wake service in her village was like having a big feast everyday till her burial. She was honoured with huge crowds of villagers during her funeral of grand sent off in China with the huge expenses sponsored by my brother from Singpore.

In the west we have so much garbage that we think is important, and I feel jealous of the lifestyle of the Hani people. So amazing, thank you for sharing. I love your channel so much.

I am from sikkim india and in my culture also we have tradition called 'cham' that is not to work in the field on the day of funeral in village. May be it is superstitious believe that working that day will render land (field) of the person working infertile
