This is the horrifying moment a pedestrian was launched 20ft into the air after being slammed into by a speeding car.

Jack Kent was flung over a garden wall by the VW, landing face-first in a garden – all of which was caught in shocking footage gathered by a camera on a road sweeper. He can be seen going cartwheeling through the air, flying over a brick wall and disappearing out of sight as the dark-coloured car mounts the kerb and comes to a stop.

The driver of the car, Leon Fowler, then exited the vehicle and began attacking the man Jack had been standing with, Ross Whitehouse. Last month Fowler, 25, appeared in Bournemouth Crown Court where he was sentenced to nine years in custody for causing GBH with intent and dangerous driving.

Reports claim the victim of the incident was sent flying 20ft into the air

Jack survived the slam, which occurred at around 8.30pm on July 16, and was in court to see the verdict. Following the smash, he was placed in an induced coma and was in intensive care for two weeks with a brain injury – he also had to undergo reconstructive surgery on parts of his head and left arm. He says he has no recollection of the incident in Weymouth, Dorset.

The astonishing footage collected by the road sweeper was shown to a shocked courtroom. Speaking to The Sun, Jack said: “Watching the footage was horrible, when I saw it I just thought 'wow, I'm lucky to be alive'".

Rebuilding work was undergone on his cheekbones which were “completely shattered” and he has been left with a metal nose. He also claimed that doctors at the hospital didn’t think he would survive or could be left “a vegetable”.

Touchingly, he now believes that he woke up for his daughter’s sake and feels like a higher power may have been watching over him, given the improbability of surviving a hit from a car going that fast. He is also astonished he didn’t suffer any leg injuries and is still able to walk. Despite now trying to move on with his life, Jack admitted that the incident will “be with me for the rest of my life”.

While he was glad to be able to be in court to see the verdict, he admitted the moment the footage was shown was difficult for his mum. In court, Ruba Huleihel, prosecuting, said: "Leon Fowler used his car as a highly dangerous weapon and deliberately drove at speed into Mr Kent.”

Fowler was also disqualified from driving for six and half years by Judge William Mousley, who said: "For reasons that remain unclear, you decided to deliberately drive your car at speed into two pedestrians who you knew with whom you appear to have a problem.
