Disappointing that the new china type 041 mini Nuclear submarine not on this list, I know it uses hybrid battery power and not much is known, it may have conventional propulsion as well but it is best because it is actually affordable unlike all the ones on this list.

Great video. I would disagree and say the Yasen-M would be number 1 The first boat was so quiet it made the US navy super nervous. The new ones are even quieter than the first. The Yasen-M also carries the Zircon missile which puts on a separate level than any other submarine in the world.

Depth, yes, that can be advantageous. Speed, generally not: the faster a submarine travels through the water, the more friction is generated by the water rushing past its hull, thus the greater the noise in the water. The result is two-fold: first, it compromises the submarines main purpose, which is to glide stealthily through the water and remain undetected; and, second, the noise generated has the tendency to deafen the submarine’s onboard sonar and other sensors to what’s going on around it, thereby negating its main purpose of detecting and tracking other submarines. In other words, those are not particularly relevant criteria to whether or not a submarine is any good or not. For pure noise reduction, and for its ability to track other submarines at distance without being detected in return, the amount of disrespect shown to the Astute-class on this video is flabbergasting.
